Description
On board the SOUTHERN VENTURER, a whaling factory ship, on her way to Antarctic whaling grounds. The journey from Britain across the equator to the Antarctic was a long one, lasting nearly two months. As many as 500 men would be on this ship. Through the days they were required to overhaul and prepare equipment for the whaling season, and sometimes in the evening entertainment was provided. Ship's concerts were sometimes held - voting cards were handed out to a selection of the audience to award points for the best acts. Films were shown once a week, although most evenings were passed playing cards or dominoes. There was also a games hall for playing darts or billiards. Allan Tulloch with glasses, Ertie Thomason playing accordion.
