A large strip of blubber that has been stripped off a whale, which will be steam cooked to get the oil out of it. The bones and meat from the whale were also be cooked in large pressure cookers to extract oil. It could be used to make things like lamp oil, soap, margarine, candles and detergent. All sorts of things could be made from the other parts of the whale - everything from dog food to buttons. In the 19th century whales skin was used to make handbags, the blood used to make glue and the tendons for making string.
