Quest expedition at Ernest Shackleton's memorial that they built, South Georgia. Copy negative. When Shackleton died at Grytviken, the rest of the expedition sailed south, leaving the body with one member of the expedition to return to the UK. They went to Montevideo, and there received instructions from Lady Shackleton to bury him at South Georgia. He was buried at Grytviken and, when
Quest returned to South Georgia from the Antarctic, they erected a memorial cross on Hope Point, on the opposite side of the cove to the cemetery (as shown in W00209). A copy of the photo, with a sheet of paper with all their signatures was deposited behind the metal plaque that can be seen on the plinth.
