Description
Muness castle on South East of Unst in a derelict state. Built in 1598 for Laurence Bruce a half brother of Patrick Stewart an illigitimate son of James V. Patrick Stewart failed in his attempt to seize the castle in 1608. The castle was again attacked and burned in 1627 by French raiders. Sold by the Bruce family in 1718 and abandoned by 1750. A person is standing by the gate at the front.
