Hillswick - fish drying on the beach at the bød, sixareens drawn up. Weighing trestle and steeple of fish on the beach. Copy of J. Irvine photo.

At head of beach are boats in their noosts and a steeple of dried fish, ready to be taken in for storage in the bød. Three sixareens are drawn up and a fourareen behind them. In the middle of the beach the weighing apparatus and around it tarpaulins are spread to dry. Among the group of people are the boys tending to the fish. When rain comes they must rush to stack them up and cover them with the tarpaulins. The merchant at Hillswick at this time was John Anderson.
