1920's
Symbister: Hay & Co.'s shop and the Bremen Bød from the sea. Hay's had several premises throughout the islands. Piles of crates and barrels outside the old shop, new shop is accross the road. Behind old shop is the Aald Haa, behind new shop is the Barn. On hill is Symbister House. In front of shop is Hay & Co.'s truck (came in 1924), and on pier is truck belonging to Peter Robertson, Isbister. (Note: the ground storey of Hays' old shop was the site of the Bremen Bød, and the road down past it was known as the Bremerstrasse. This was a Hanseatic merchant's booth from 16th century. The Bremen Bød was not the pier house, as sometimes commonly thought).
