The Roost, Commercial Street, 1887
1887
The Roost, Commercial Street, from H. McKay, flesher, 121 Commercial Street and H. Morrison, stationer, 74 Commercial Street. Baker with a tray of new-baked loaf. Construction work of the Grand Hotel in progress. Taken same day as R02830. The Roost, at 9 feet wide, was the narrowest part of the street; numbers 121, 123, 125, & 127 were demolished on 30 Apr. 1888, widening the
street there to 19 feet. A new granite block of shops was erected to
replace the demolished buildings. (For a similar view in c. 1930 see
R02608). 121 Commercial Street was built in 1817.
