Pommel 11 Mount 14 Mount 13 Mount 12
These cone-shaped mounts have been described as 'belt buttons' for sword belts. They are heavily worn at the top and have some damage and wear on their base plates, evidence that helps suggest their use.
A pommel was a head to a sword hilt. Its purpose was to prevent the sword from slipping from the user's hand. This pommel is decorated with interlaced Pictish beasts. Could this pommel have belonged to the same sword as one of the two chapes discovered?
