Description
Picket, Shetland Companies, Gordon Highlanders, at Gremista. The soldier leaning on ground far LHS is James Rusk Reid - (Bunty) eventually gaining the rank of Sergeant. Served the entire war in war in the trenches in France. Was offered another promotion but declined because he had promised his mother that he would look after his younger brother Gideon Reid, also serving in the trenches. Bunty was wounded near the end of the war, and sent back to the UK for recovery. He never returned to the front. Bunty was the one of the first soldiers from Lerwick to volunteer for WWI. (His 1/2 sister said he was the first soldier)
