Robert Laurenson, Clickimin, letter carrier. Written on the back of this photo is the following:- "Robert Laurenson aged 70 years, for 24 years Post Runner between Lerwick and Mossbank in Zetland, having travelled during that time the distance of nearly four times around the world and carried about fifty tons of mails during said period, and months ago turned adrift because of the mails being conveyed by gig, and to live or die as he best could without pension or other aid for his long and faithful services.
This photograph was taken without premeditation and immediately after his having deposited a kazie [kishie] of peats.
Lerwick Dec. 1863."
