Two hulks lying at the head of the West Dock
1890's
Two hulks lying at the head of the West Dock. A door is cut in the bows of the nearest vessel, and a staging built out to her. The outermost hulk is the VENUS. Sail drifters in background - just visible is the VINE LK 194. (This Venus is thought to be the schooner, ex cod smack LK 34, which belonged to Joseph Leask and Robert Nisbet. Registry closed 1883 and sold to be a lighter). Note: a copy neg. photo of West Dock, with Skibba Dock in foreground, in 1880's exists, featuring these hulks. Poor neg.
